Chia Loong Thye is our Resident Partner at our Penang Office. He graduated from University of Warwick, England with a LLB degree in 1982. He is a member of Gray’s Inn, London and was admitted to the English Bar in 1983. He was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in March 1985.

Chia Loong Thye has been actively involved in civil litigation and various modes of dispute resolution (including industrial disputes) and arbitration. His arbitration experience includes being involved in an international arbitration where the hearing was partly held in Kuala Lumpur and partly in London. He is a qualified arbitrator with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, United Kingdom.

Chia Loong Thye is also active in conveyancing, tenancy, leases, estates and corporate practices in the Penang Office. He specializes in land transactions and housing development legal matters.

Chia Loong Thye is also a qualified mediator with the Malaysian Mediation Centre since April 2000. He was a member of the Malaysian Bar Council Sub-Committee on ADR from 2002-2006. He has been appointed as a mediator in a number of commercial and civil disputes such as estate administration, construction dispute and shareholders’ disputes.

He is also a Mediation Trainer for the University Malaya Master in Law (LLM) ADR Course for the semester year 2002-2003 and 2003-2004. He has been engaged by the Malaysian Institut Latihan Kehakiman dan Perundangan (ILKAP) as one of the Mediation Trainers to conduct mediation workshops in 2007, 2008 and 2009. The participants for these workshops comprised judges, and legal officers and practitioners from Malaysia and other countries. Chia Loong Thye also co-presented a paper on "the Role of the Judiciary and the Bar in the Promotion of Mediation" at the Malaysian Law Conference.
