Consultant

Dato' K. C. Vohrah is a Consultant with Messrs Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill. He studied law at the University of Singapore and has a Master of Law degree from the Free University of Brussels. In 1964 he was admitted and enrolled as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.

He served previously in the Judicial and Legal Service of Malaya. He was the Legal Adviser to the Royal Customs and Excise Department and then Legal Adviser to the Ministry of Primary Industries before being appointed Treasury Solicitor. He was made Head of the Advisory Division, Attorney General's Chambers and was concurrently Acting Parliamentary Draftsman for a while. He participated in many negotiations in international loan agreements (including these of the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank) and bond issues, and was legal adviser to the various conferences in relation to the Tin and Rubber Buffer Stock Agreements. Additionally he was involved in the Law of the Sea Conferences in New York and Geneva as part of the Malaysian Delegation.

He served as a Commissioner of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia from July 2002 up to April 2008. He was also the Chairman of the Corporate Law Reform Committee, Malaysia.

Dato' K.C. Vohrah is active both in domestic and international arbitration work. He serves on the Panel of Arbitrators, the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration. He is also on the Regional Panel of Arbitrators, Singapore International Arbitration Centre and is a Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Arbitration (SIArb). At present he is a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Hague, Netherlands and a member of the Advisory Board of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration, a division of the Centre for American and International Law.

Dato' K. C. Vohrah is Adjunct Professor, College of Law, Government and International Studies of University Utara Malaysia and he is also an External Examiner, Faculty of Law, University of Malaya. He has written many articles on law and on human rights and co-authored the 5th Edition of Sheridan & Groves: The Constitution of Malaysia (2004) and Vohrah and Hamid on the Malaysian Penal Code (2005).
