SM Shanmugam graduated with a LLB (Hons) from the University of Malaya in 2002 and was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in July 2003.
Shan is a litigator and his primary areas of practice are corporate, commercial and civil litigation. He is a partner in the Corporate Dispute Practice Group and has a wide spread of experience in advising and appearing as counsel in litigious matters such as shareholders’ disputes, breaches of directors’ duties, minority oppression actions, contractual and property disputes as well as defending claims arising from negligence lawsuits. As an adjunct to this, Shan also represents private clients in contentious and non-contentious probate and administration matters.
Shan frequently appears at the high court and appellate courts for various hearings, trials and appeals. In pursuit of his interest in litigation, Shan recently completed his Master in Laws at the University of Malaya with emphasis on company law and civil procedure.
