AIAC Mooting Workshop 2019
Last Saturday (26 January), Crystal Wong Wai Chin, case counsel of the Energy, Infrastructure & Projects and International Arbitration Practice Group at Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill, participated in a panel discussion of “Raison d'être of Mooters” organised by the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) and the AIAC Young Practitioners Group.
Crystal believes that mooting can be a fun — albeit demanding — experience. Beyond that, mooting helps in developing confidence and advocacy skills as well as teaching the key skills that any lawyer must develop which would be of benefit as his or her career progresses.
The range of topics discussed during the event included understanding arbitration, how to structure and organise an argument, what to bring to the mock hearing, style of arguments, the law — both procedural and substantive — and responding to questions and rebuttals.
Crystal is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the UK. She sits on the panel of arbitrators of the AIAC.
