New Senior Associates

Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill (LHAG) is pleased to announce the promotion of the following associates to senior associates wef 1 January 2019:

  1. Tan Hooi Ping
  2. Samantha Liew Wee Nie

Tan Hooi Ping — Employment Practice Group

Hooi Ping graduated from the University of Malaya with an LLB (Hons) in 2012. She was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in November 2013.

She commenced practice in January 2014 in the Employment Practice Group in the team headed by Lim Heng Seng. Her main area of practice is in providing legal advisory services to local and international establishments on various issues relating to employment and industrial relations law as well as employment-related immigration and tax laws in Malaysia.

Her experience includes advising on the exercise of managerial prerogatives of employers ranging from performance management of staff to discipline, transfer and secondment and termination of employment. She has also developed expertise in providing legal advisory services on people issues arising out of and/or relating to sale and acquisitions of shares and business in cross-border transactions, setting up of new company and business and corporate restructuring exercises. The scope of such advice includes documentation for the migration of staff, legal and procedural compliance, compensation and transitioning benefit plans, as well as selection of staff for retention, transfer and/or retrenchment.

Besides advisory matters, Hooi Ping has experience assisting LHAG’s partners in litigation of dismissal disputes referred to and arising from awards of the Industrial Court. She also works with the partner in charge of pro bono initiatives in litigation concerning constitutional, administrative and public interest matters.

She has also written articles for the firm’s Legal Herald newsletter, namely, “Termination of Employment in Workforce Reorganisation” and “To Confirm or Not to Confirm”. Hooi Ping also co-edited the Pro Bono Stories, a publication in conjunction with LHAG’s 25th anniversary.

 

Samantha Liew Wee Nie — Corporate Department

Samantha read law at the University of Leeds and is a member of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple. She was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2014 and admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in January 2015.

After completing pupillage with the firm, she commenced practice with the team headed by Tay Weng Hwee. Her main areas of practice are mergers and acquisitions and real estate, with a focus on receivership and liquidation sales, where she has extensive experience in advising and acting for insolvency practitioners in sale and purchase transactions involving companies’ assets. In addition, she regularly advises clients across various industries on general corporate and commercial law.
